Monkey Man: Dev’s Violent movie resembles Indian Society.

Nominated for Oscar through his impressive work in Garth Davis’ movie, LION (2016), Dev Patel wasn’t new to nominations for the Academy Awards as he achieved global fame in 2008 by playing the lead role in Danny Boyle’s Oscar winning movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.  This movie released in 2008 went on to win 8 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. Coming very close to Slumdog Millionaire Oppenheimer went on to win 7 Oscars in the 96th Academy Awards Ceremony.

The  movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was the breakthrough movie for Dev Patel’s career. In the movie, he played the role of a sweet-loving teenager but character totally changes for his first own directed movie, MONKEY MAN, he totally transforms himself into a absolute stout action-hero whose sole motive is to take revenge against all the cruelty shown by the powerful political leader and religionist during the childhood days to his village. The plot of this movie is mainly joined by Indian Casts.

This movie depicts the unhealthy realities of India’s society and also the Hindu mythology. The movie’s plot is inspired by the Hindu mythological God, Hanuman, who is the symbol of immense power and bravery and also the one who fights against all the evil entities. The reference of Lord Hanuman can be seen in the trailer as well. 

Monkey Man was released on 5th April in the United States, and on the first day it had an impressive collection and the opening may be worth more than 10 million US dollars.  A fan reviewed Monkey Man as John Wick in Mumbai, while many associate this with the storyline of Gangs of Wasseypur and Sacred Games.

Despite facing many problems in his own directorial vision, one of the most difficult hurdles will be with India’s Censor board to get the clearance. The movie is facing this problem because of its strong content specifically because of their Violence, political and religious crisis. Previously, this power-packed action movie was going to release in theatres on 19th april but this date has now been cancelled and there is a big doubt of the movie’s release in India. Other than this, Universal Pictures India posted about the movie that it is soon going to release in theatres in India.
