They become the timeless classic figure as if “The Superhero Of Movie History”.
Though it is the most prestigious award in the film world, but there are only a few Indians who have won Oscars in different categories.
Here are all the Oscar Winners from India.
BHANU ATHAIYA
She was the first Indian ever to win an Oscar award. She won an Oscar for Best Costume Design – Gandhi (1982) in the year 1983 at The 55th Academy Awards Ceremony.
Satyajit Ray
In 1992, the legendary Bengali Filmmaker, Satyajit Ray received The honorary Award. This award represents the lifetime achievement of a filmmaker and Satyajit Ray is the only Indian to get this award.
Resul Pookutty
He won the Academy award in 2009 for Best Sound Mixing – Slumdog Millionaire (2008), jointly with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke. He received this award at The 81st Academy Awards Ceremony.
A R Rahman
The only Indian who has two Oscar Awards in two different categories is A R Rahman. In the same 81st Academy Awards Ceremony, He won the award for Best Original Score – Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Best Original Song – Jai ho (2008) in the same movie (Slumdog Millionaire).
Gulzar
In the 81st Academy Awards Ceremony, he shared his award with A R Rahman for Best Original Song – Jai Ho (2008) in the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
M M Keeravani and Chandrabose
After 14 years M M Keeravani won the Oscar Award for Best Original Song – Naatu Naatu from the movie RRR (2022), in 2023 at the 95th Academy Awards Ceremony. M M Keeravani won the Oscar for Music in this song and Chandrabose won the Oscar for lyrics in this song.
Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga
In the same year, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga won the Oscar award for Best Documentary Short Film – The Elephant Whisperers (2022). This is the first Indian film to win an Oscar in this category.
