Overview

Blessy Thomas is an Indian-Malayalam film director and screenwriter, who started his journey with Kaazhcha (2004) which was his debut film. With his debut, this movie bagged many awards In Kerala State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South and Asianet Film Awards. After this he also won National Film Awards for Kaazhcha (2004) and Thanmathra (2005), Pranayam (2011). One of his documentary movies 100 years of Chrysostom (2018) also received the Guinness World record for The Longest Documentary Film. His latest appearance came in Aadujeevitham or The Goat Life, which was his dream project since 2009. This movie is written and directed by Blessy, who is also the co-producer of this movie. This movie was released on March 28.  

Early Life and Marriage

Blessy was born on 3rd September in the year 1963 in a Christian Family in Tiruvilla, Kerala. He was the youngest out of 6 children of Benny Thomas ( Father of Blessy) and Ammini Thomas (Mother of Blessy). He completed his graduation from Mar Thoma College in Tiruvilla. Right now, He is married to Mini and they have two children. 

Blessy started his career as an assistant director under movie-makers like Padmarajan, jayarajan and others. His first movie as a director was Kaazhcha (2004). This movie got a very good response as it received three Kerala State Film Awards which included Best Director, Best Actor and Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value. 

Following the success of the first movie, he brought his second movie named Thanmathra in 2005. This movie too got a good response as it bagged the National Award for the Best Film in Malayalam and five Kerala State Film Awards again. 

After this, he was the writer and director of the movie Palunku in 2006, Calcutta News in 2008 and Bhramaram in 2009. In 2010, he played a role in a Tamil Film Easan (2010) and also in a malayalam language comedy-drama movie named Best Actor in the same year. In 2011, he directed the movie Pranayam and in 2013 Kalimannu. His movie 100 years of Chrysostom, which was 48 hrs long, received the Guinness World Record for the Longest Documentary Feature Film.His movie Aadujeevitham or The Goat Life came this year in 2024.This movie is rated very-highly as the Best Survival-Drama ever made in the Indian Cinema History.
