Suni Chhetri announced retirement, last match aginst Kuwait.
Indian Fottball superstar Sunil Chhetri has decided to retire from International Football. Sunil Chhetri is going to play his last match against Kuwait on June 6. Sunil Chhetri announced his retirement through sharing a video on his social media account. In the video he described his journey and declared that this is the time to retire and give chances to the youngsters. This 39 year-old Indian Football icon has made and broke many records in his career.
Sunil Chhetri announced his retirement
Sunil Chhetri is one of the most important parts of Indian Football. He has scored about 94 goals in his career of 150 matches. Currently, he stands fourth among the top goalscorers across all over the world. While announcing his retirement, he described his journey and said that he still remembers his first match. Chhetri recalled his first match, his first goal, was the most memorable moment in his big journey. He said that I never thought that I would be able to play so many matches for the country. He also said that he discussed his decision of retirement with his parents and his wife.
Sunil played his first match against Pakistan.
Sunil Chhetri played his first international match against Pakistan on June 12, 2005. He scored his first goal in this debut match against Pakistan. He won the AIFF player of the year award six times in his long career. Apart from these awards, he won the Arjuna Award in 2011 and Padma Shri award in 2019.
Indian team has to play two important matches
Team India has recently announced their squad for the second phase matches of joint qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 against Kuwait and Qatar. The Indian Team will face Qatar on June 11 after their match against Kuwait on June 6. India stands second with four points in their four matches. The top two teams will be qualified for the third round of The FIFA world cup qualifiers and will register their place for The AFC Asian Cup 2027 at Saudi Arabia.
